Always Ready and in Focus:#design101/002

Here is my design process for the assignment I had on Tuesday in #design102 MOOC.

A friend of mine had to take a good potrait of me and after that I had to make a good potrait of myself.

There was a little mistake in the daily brief saying that we should draw a potrait from a picture that our friends took of us. So when I found a friend to take picture of me, sun was already setting and I thought is ok as I can always draw something when its darker. I also gave him free hands to make a picture of me. It was a good moment to let the other person express their feeling and impression about you so I let David freely choose where, when and how he took my picture. Its really nice to give that kind of control away sometimes as I usually love to plan my pictures and think about the details.

Here is the final picture he chose and I think its good that its expressive and not just pretty. The bridge is also nice symbolic background and that creative factory space behind and ofcourse autumn leaves against blue sky.

I also wanted to take pictures of David and this is my choice: He is artist so I wanted to give him a graffiti frame. You can see his work here:

Then it was time for my self potrait and as I noticed that the assignment was to take another picture and not make a drawing so I got a little panic.

The Sun had set and the one peace to hold the camera was missing from my tripod. So what to do. Don´t panic!, I thought and immediately start thinking my options. no light, camera no good when shaking, web camera stupid, photo automat costs and take time and last time even my picture got lost there even those are cool in Berlin. I could have run to that bar to complain about my last missing photo but most likely loose time and not get it anyway back. And then it hit me. I have a scanner! And after that I was like a child playing and experimenting as long there was time left as this assigment was just 1 hour. So I was pretty fast then scanning myself. It felt like victorian times photographer as I reached my hand to click the mouse and covered then my head with a big flanel shirt for the scan to start.

 

I also found some strange cameras like the concealed vest camera and love this slogan. "No Tourist Artist or Student, Amateur or Professional, should be without this Camera" .

It was quite steamy under the cloth and you can see my breath in the picture!

Cat calendar

Here are couple of pictures of the cat calendar I am working on. This autumn I had a work in Belgium for one month and lived in the countryside. My boyfriend and 2 belgian cats travelled from Berlin with me.

xmas drawings

Every year I make many drawings by hand and send them to my friends. This year I also knitted some stuff and I am making a cat calendar in the last minute. Hopefully next year I have time to make my calendar already early on and maybe even sell it on Etsy. Now its coming ready in the last moment, ready to be used right away when the new year 2012 kickstarts. Here is some polar bears dedicated to my little nephew Nyyti. I am bit like this one lonely polar bear. I cannot travel this year to Finland and I ll stay in Berlin.

unikeko

I had so much fun doing this passenger. Its about freeloaders, sleepyheads (unikeko in finnish), dreamers and for those who are living their life in a half sleep. Or sleeping in trains and metros missing their destinations or maybe being late for work. I would like to say that is time to wake up and do things not just dream of them. But same time the biggest sleepy season is coming. So many animals will be winter sleeping while people just keep going.

p.p.s you can buy now this design on my society6 page here. There is many kinds of products like framed art piece, tote bag or pillows:) Would be so cool if my sloth would get to travelling into the street in some tote bag in some part of this world. He is kind of secret passenger and hitchhiker just very dreamy and sleepy one.

Bar Zombie

I participated to another Threadless challenge. Threadless Loves Horror.
My mistake was just not to add right away a template where you can see design on t-shirt so my design was declined at first. I uploaded the design again with correct t-shirt but it might be that it will be just in normal scoring.

Anyway I hope you enjoy this design. I was thinking a sentence:
"A zombie is physically identical to a normal human being, but completely lacks concious experience."
Yeah oktoberfest is coming in Germany and soon zombies looks like normal human being indeed:)

Log Lady

Here is my newest work. T-shirt design on Threadless.
There was a T-post competition on Threadless with a theme "Green is as green does". T-post magazine is really cool initiative:) http://www.tpostmag.com/ I hope my design could become part of it.
Would be great if someone would vote on Threadless. Voting will start in 1-2 days and last then for 1 week. In one week I should have more than 500 votes in order to get printed.

I hope to keep active so I can post here more of the things I do. Its funny how much drawing takes place back scene of these final design. Process is always nice as I come up with so many ideas that makes many more designs.

I will also dedicate some future designs to my dear cat Black Jack that escaped when we had our last holiday day in Finland. Luckily he was found after 3 weeks in a little bit thinner version of himself and one of my friend could travel with him back to Berlin.
