Cat calendar

Here are couple of pictures of the cat calendar I am working on. This autumn I had a work in Belgium for one month and lived in the countryside. My boyfriend and 2 belgian cats travelled from Berlin with me.

xmas drawings

Every year I make many drawings by hand and send them to my friends. This year I also knitted some stuff and I am making a cat calendar in the last minute. Hopefully next year I have time to make my calendar already early on and maybe even sell it on Etsy. Now its coming ready in the last moment, ready to be used right away when the new year 2012 kickstarts. Here is some polar bears dedicated to my little nephew Nyyti. I am bit like this one lonely polar bear. I cannot travel this year to Finland and I ll stay in Berlin.

unikeko

I had so much fun doing this passenger. Its about freeloaders, sleepyheads (unikeko in finnish), dreamers and for those who are living their life in a half sleep. Or sleeping in trains and metros missing their destinations or maybe being late for work. I would like to say that is time to wake up and do things not just dream of them. But same time the biggest sleepy season is coming. So many animals will be winter sleeping while people just keep going.

There is many kinds of products like framed art piece, tote bag or pillows:) Would be so cool if my sloth would get to travelling into the street in some tote bag in some part of this world. He is kind of secret passenger and hitchhiker just very dreamy and sleepy one.

Bar Zombie

I participated to another Threadless challenge. Threadless Loves Horror.
My mistake was just not to add right away a template where you can see design on t-shirt so my design was declined at first. I uploaded the design again with correct t-shirt but it might be that it will be just in normal scoring.

Anyway I hope you enjoy this design. I was thinking a sentence:
"A zombie is physically identical to a normal human being, but completely lacks concious experience."
Yeah oktoberfest is coming in Germany and soon zombies looks like normal human being indeed:)

Log Lady

Here is my newest work. T-shirt design on Threadless.
There was a T-post competition on Threadless with a theme "Green is as green does". T-post magazine is really cool initiative:) http://www.tpostmag.com/ I hope my design could become part of it.
Would be great if someone would vote on Threadless. Voting will start in 1-2 days and last then for 1 week. In one week I should have more than 500 votes in order to get printed.

I hope to keep active so I can post here more of the things I do. Its funny how much drawing takes place back scene of these final design. Process is always nice as I come up with so many ideas that makes many more designs.

I will also dedicate some future designs to my dear cat Black Jack that escaped when we had our last holiday day in Finland. Luckily he was found after 3 weeks in a little bit thinner version of himself and one of my friend could travel with him back to Berlin.

memefest

I am still waiting someone of the jury would comment my work in the memefest. Its seem to be I am not gonna win that competition. Anyway it has been great to participate and I got plenty other ideas related to this work I made. I am going to do them as well in near future. Today I looked this picture and thought about Japan's catastrophe. Somehow this picture could be an illustration of what's happening now in Japan. I just wanted to point out dialogue between love and power. It came almost like a flipper game in this illustration.

The title of the poster is: What would you do?

I wrote in description of the competition that " I hope these connections that I made will give inspiration to also some other to think about what is important in your life while everyone's time is limited. Love is power in life and death. One year can bring both good and bad news. Love is a dialogue. It can be very bad news to nature that nuclear waste will never go away and she has to live with it. Thou she can not be crying for it forever but what would she do? I have used some slogans to underline the duality of life "Better to be active today than radioactive tomorrow." or "Run for your life as the rabbit starts its run against the clock!" There is also lot of vengeance in the hearth of the mother nature.

Beastie boy

This sentence is my own. I just felt that way then.

Today these drawings are dedicated to Romulus who has been nasty beast for 2 weeks. He freaked out when we had one week holiday to Praha and cat sitter was looking after him. So since then he became a protest cat and he keeps on protesting. I don't understand him. Today I had an eye on him and still he managed to poo two times to the floor.  Ofcourse just when I was drawing. Hopefully I ll get situation under control for next week but I am afraid that will not happen. Tried to play, talk and notice him. And he even does it usually after getting food.

I made the first drawing with me and a lion when visiting one old jail museum in Belgium 2008. I left it there as the guest book was just made out of hanging pics on chains. One sad relationship ending was also influensing to this drawing. Then I didn't understand what I know now. Knowledge is always the best help. I wish I could know what's wrong with my sabotage cat.

Welcome new me and rabbit year 2011!

Today is a little bit spring in the air and just so much sun light that you can see that  the windows need cleaning. And I am sitting inside, feeling a bit sad and useless while my cats are busy with bird watching. I am also cat sitting because Romulus has a nasty habit to piss to the floor at least twice a day or always when he wants to protest on something. So meanwhile I noticed that my cat is actually today on a better mood and won't piss, I started to think about my goals in life.

I decided finally to let my self go and write in english even if I am finnish. And for this purpose I wanted to open a brand new blog about creativity. jihaa!!

So hopefully I can now show my works better online. It has been so hard duel with myself to be open about it. If anyone of you would meet me in person you might say oh Silva is so open and talkative. But if its about my works..then I get über shy and closed.

Here in this blog I would like to concentrate completely to things I love ie illustrations and visual things, photograph and little stories about life in Berlin. Yes indeed, I live in Berlin that is so creative and amazing place to be!

"We didn't move to Berlin to become some stupid help desk people", said my boyfriend just when this week Monday I signed a contract to work in online travel agency. I ll get even bonus if I am never sick! What I can say to this. I have maybe failed to network with my graphic design and illustrations skills and to make myself known. I cannot just live with plain love.
Would be so cool to live with just the things I love. I have now until 14.2 time to draw everyday. Then the hard reality will get me in as I will have only 5 hours in a day for myself and for sure I will be eating something too:)  And still here I am sure to be able to do something creative anyway. I have actually done very nice sketches, doodling in my previous money making work in Belgium. There were days when phone didn't ring much and even some conversations with a client made me draw interesting stuff:) So let me hope the best.

Only problem seem to be now to give a name to my blog. So many names I like are already taken,even by me like silvakariina on another site of my portfolio in Blogger. But then I started to draw and voila' there it was born. Silvaxx like some people sing they name in email just xx.
